3D laser scanning technology is used to measure, model and map complex piping structures found in manufacturing facilities and chemical plants. The process measures individual data points in 3D (up to 1M pts/sec) and then joins the points together into photo-realistic Point Clouds. By creating a visual database, the client can interact with the measurement data by comparing to CAD drawings or conceptual designs from their desktop reducing the need for multiple site visits and improving overall project coordination.

To support all phases of this project Falk PLI utilized a wide variety of methods including Robotic Total Stations, 3D High Definition Laser Scanners, and GPS. Falk PLI performed as-builts and 3D laser scans to assist with design of facility and fabrication of equipment and utilities. Through the use of pointclouds and 3D models contractors were able to identify potential clashes and required equipment tie-ins, reducing the re-work and field fit time during equipment installation.
